Lose weight… by eating more

What comes to mind when you think about losing weight?

For many people, the idea of eating less and probably getting more exercise comes to mind. Did you know that in some cases, it might benefit you to eat more in order to lose weight?

Yes, you might actually lose weight if you start eating more. That does not mean you can pick up an extra tub of ice cream later! However, if you seem to be eating less but not losing weight, it could be a metabolism issue.

If you have been watching your weight and trying to live a healthy lifestyle, you have probably heard about your metabolism, but do you truly have a good grasp on the concept? Metabolism is the process in which your body breaks down molecules for energy. Your metabolism usually slows down as you get older, but some genetic factors may also be a cause. However, you can also slow down your metabolism when you do not eat on a regular basis or when you do not eat enough food. This is precisely why skipping meals will never help you lose weight.

How can you ensure that your metabolism remains at a healthy level? You must avoid allowing your body to go into starvation mode, which means you should be eating every two or three hours. Think of your body as being like a fire. You have to feed the fire and stoke it so that it burns long and strong. The same goes for your body.

In order for your body to maximise the fuel it receives, you must give it good-quality food. This means your diet should consist of foods such as lean meat, eggs, and fish along with healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, and nuts. Carbohydrates like sweet potatoes and whole grains are also good sources of energy.

Keep in mind that protein usually takes longer to digest, which means it will last a little longer as a source of fuel for your body. The fat stores in your body also help your metabolism stay in check, so do not eliminate it from your diet completely.

The key is to remember that you need to eat at regular intervals and consume healthy foods in order to make the most of your metabolism. Once you start eating this way, you might find that you are actually eating more but are losing weight!
